The DVC, Academic Affairs, Prof. Henry Mutoro, the Director, Kenya School of Law, Prof. P.L.O. Lumumba, the author, Mwangi Mathai, DVC, Research, Production and Extension, Prof. Lucy Irungu, celebrate the launch of the book titled Beyond Poverty & Vulnerability in Kenya.

The Chief Guest, challenged the youth to avoid the culture of dependency, harness the resources within the African continent and liberate Africa.  He urged the youth to deconstruct the house of poverty that has been built over the years. “If you need things that require effort, you must put in more effort.  He said Our Young men must see Africa as a rich continent and not the West, as the green grass”.

The author, Mwangi Mathai, urged the youth to see themselves as global citizens in order to achieve success.  He encouraged the young people to avoid depending on charity, embrace ICT innovation, and disentangle themselves from wrong political associations, to shun consumption mindset, avoid corruption, embrace devolution and distance themselves from witchcraft.

UoN Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs, Prof. Henry Mutoro, noted that the value of a university press to the community of scholars cannot be gainsaid.  He said, in academia, career advancement is based on evidence of publishing activity and what better place to begin than in one’s own university press.
