UoN Maintains Excellent Performance at NITF 2014

The University of Nairobi (UoN) has once again recorded excellent performance at the 2014 Nairobi International Trade Fair by taking the top positions in the various categories.

UoN scooped

First Position:

  • Best innovation and invention stand and

Second Position:

  • Best university stand,
  • Best institution of higher learning in developing and advanced technology,
  • Best engineering based institution of higher learning, and
  • Best stand that promotes national cohesion and integration development.

 

The University has also won prizes in the farm and animal produce categories

.  

The prizes were presented to UoN’s Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi by the President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta. Dr. Rattansi had an opportunity to sample some of the University’s research innovations on display at the stand.

Among the innovations on display include a digital abattoir, a fruit ripening test device that grades fruits according to how ripe they are, projects on automated farming using mobile phone technology, research on bio-fertilization farming as an alternative to chemical fertilization farming, research on the anti-cancer potential of medicinal plants from Kakamega as well as displays on youth activities, empowerment and capacity building, social responsibility and community initiatives.

The annual event accords the University a platform to share information with stakeholders among them potential students, parents and the general public on its programme and services, and its role in national development. 

On display at the University stands are research innovations, food crops and farm animals which are in line with this year's trade fair theme- ‘Enhancing Technology in Agriculture and Industry for Food Security and National Growth.’
