HONORARY DEGREE
The Dean of the Faculty of Arts will rise and present the following candidate for the conferment of the degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) (Honoris Causa) of the University of Nairobi.  As the Dean reads out the first name, the candidate should walk to the dais and stand before the Chancellor.  The Vice Chancellor assisted by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Arts will robe and hood the candidate.  The Chancellor will then cap the graduand and simultaneously confer the degree on him by saying;
“I admit you to the degree of Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) (Honoris Causa), and by my authority and that of the entire University, give power to read and to do all that appertains to this degree”.
The candidate will then stand, receive his degree certificate from the Chancellor, bow/curtsy to the Chancellor and walk to the podium to give a response.
